About me

I am an Associate Director of Experience Design with over 12 years experience leading UX teams and implementing the user-centered design process. During this time, my focus has been researching and designing interfaces for users of eCommerce websites and mobile applications, while leading large design organizations to do the same.

Throughout my career, I have had the pleasure of working with some of the world’s best and most well-known brands, including Wayfair, Nestlé, Gerber, Staples, Rue La La, Ogilvy & Mather, McCann, Spalding, and Fruit of the Loom.

As my teams have grown, I've cultivated a range of leadership skills. I’ve driven and executed a UX vision within a 300+ person product org, created process efficiencies, and codified team standards structured around the fundamental ideals of Design-Thinking, Lean-UX, and Agile. Most importantly, I've had the pleasure of establishing high-performing teams through disciplined hiring, mentorship, and management of many supremely talented experience designers and managers (up to 15 at a time) simultaneously across multiple work streams.

These skills enable me to serve as a seasoned director of large experience design organizations, while still having the capability to roll up my sleeves and lead high-impact project work on a large scale.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, EXPERIENCE DESIGN (UX/UI)

  • Served as a senior leader in an 80+ person design org (within a 300+ product org), working within a small team of Experience Design directors responsible for team culture, psychological safety, role competencies, and performance evaluation/calibration.
  • Led a high performing team of up to 15 Product Designers, User Researchers, and Content Strategists simultaneously across multiple work streams through disciplined hiring, mentorship, and management.
  • Conceptualized and spearheaded the creation of Wayfair’s highly successful “XD Collectives” program. Collectives are groups of design org team members who want to share knowledge and shape the greater design team’s understanding of tools, techniques, initiatives, and culture. Among the 16 established groups, there are Collectives about accessibility, career development, the design system, design tools, design process, team culture, etc. This program activates the whole design org to foster innovation, enable career progression, and provide a sense of ownership at all levels.
  • Owned, led, and evolved the Experience Design portion of the product team’s onboarding program. This program ensures new members of the product team understand the structure, agile process, and best practices when working with the XD team.
  • Established and documented Wayfair’s Agile Experience Design Methodology, a granular, actionable process that is widely used across the product organization. This methodology consists of a repeatable agile framework that weaves in the fundamentals of Design Thinking, while adhering to the principles of Lean UX.

SENIOR EXPERIENCE DESIGN MANAGER (UX/UI)

  • Led the design organization for a large cross-section of the customer facing Desktop, mobile web, iOS, and Android experiences. These workstreams included Product Listings, Product Details Pages, Checkout, Delivery, Customer Reviews, Assembly & Installation Services, Financing, Promotions, and Wedding Registry.
  • Established, owned, and evolved the process by which the large design org shares work across the team. This process helps to prevent duplicative projects, enables transparency across the org, fosters a sense of community, and gives team members of all levels the opportunity to hone their presentation skills.
  • Worked with cross-disciplinary product leadership to shape the size, structure, seniority, and skillset of the Experience Design org to ensure each workstream was appropriately set up for success.
  • Unlocked the potential of Wayfair’s UX and UI designers by combining the responsibilities of each into the singular, more modern role of Product Designer. Led the team to align on the new organization structure, skills rubric, and training materials that were necessary to roll out this change.
  • Established and evolved a recruiting process that enabled the XD team to grow from 8 team members in 2016 to 80+ in 2020. This process included documenting the processes by which the team sources, recruits, entices, screens, interviews, and evaluates candidates.

LEAD USER EXPERIENCE DESIGNER

  • Led top-to-bottom eCommerce redesign engagements for some of the world’s best and most well-known brands, including Nestlé, Gerber, Staples, Rue La La, Spalding, and Fruit of the Loom.
  • Interacted with clients at the director level to understand pain points and align on “big picture” concepts while accurately reflecting their brand promise.
  • Facilitated workshops to align clients, product managers, engineers, and designers around business decisions and design deliverables.
  • Led, coached, and collaborated with the design team to conduct research and create personas, user flows, wireframes, and site maps.
  • Helped stakeholders visualize experiences using high fidelity interactive prototypes, while evaluating designs through user testing.
  • Managed UX work streams for projects while weighing business needs, user needs, technical limitations, scope, and budget.
  • Contributed to business development efforts by crafting SOWs, Proposals, and RFPs, as well as conceptualizing and executing spec work and leading design pitch efforts during sales engagements.
